If there was one comic book film this summer that rivals The Dark Knight, this is it. This is what happens when people doubt(including myself)the casting of someone in a lead role. Michael Keaton was cast in Batman with a lot of skeptisism and look what happened. Heath Ledger we all by now will kick ass in The Dark Kight and now Robert Downey Jr. has brought Marvel unknown(by non comic book readers)hero Iron Man.
I read the origin of Iron Man and found this film to be very faithful to the story, while modernizing it. Gwyneth Paltrow's character is like Lois Lane to Superman, very loyal, loving, but still headstrong. I loved her in it. Jeff Daniels surprised me with how well he portrayed a villain in a comic book film. The cards have finally been set to begin development on The Avengers film and this is the stepping stone.
Note: Stay for the credits to see Samuel L Jackson in a cameo as another member of The Avengers.
