In 2003 Ang Lee, Marvel and Universal decided to bring The Hulk out on the big screen. Starring Eric Bana, Jennifer Connelly, Sam Neil and Nick Nolte it was a box office flop. Still a decent enough film, Universal decided that a sequel wasn't the best news and decided to reboot the story. Instead of just redoing an origin story and just getting into Bruce Banner already having been affected by the Gamma Radiation(with the origin told in flashbacks)and trying to find a cure.
The new film stars Ed Norton, Liv Tyler, William Hurt and Tim Roth, with cameos by Stan Lee, Bill Bixby(archive footage),Lou Ferrigno(who also does the voice of The Incredible Hulk) and Robert Downey Jr(reprising his role as Tony Stark, help furthering the crossover film The Avengers).
This film is incredible, darker than Lee's version and gearing toward fans of both the comic books and TV Series(with a familiar "Lonely Man" sound)this is certain to please everyone. The Hulk here looks much better, not a bright happy green he was in Lee's Hulk, his color is drastically darker and more realistic looking. Tim Roth is wonderful as Blonsky(aka The Abomination). William Hurt and Liv Tyler have done exceptionally well in the roles of a military father and his estranged daughter.
We also get to see how serious Marvel has become with making an Avengers movie the right way. We not only get a great cameo by Downey Jr, but we see the name Nick Furey on a piece of paper, along with S.H.I.E.L.D and Blonsky's character is given the Super Soldier Formula that Captain America was given. Can't wait for the team up film.
I'm mostly a DC guy, so DC, please keep taking notes. We all want a Justice League film, but we want it done right. Anyway, the story here is similar to the TV series, with Bruce Banner just trying to find a cure, but here he learns to control his anger and how to keep his heart rate at a level that won't turn him(sometimes).
Now I enjoyed Ang Lee's The Hulk, but this is a much better film. I'm glad we will be getting this version in the team up film.
I suggest you watch "Iron Man" first before watching this, since chronologically it takes place after Iron Man. Both films are excellent, definately worth the money.
