Sam Raimi returned to what he does best!! Shocking and disturbing! I enjoyed this movie very much. I loved the fact that it started off with a jumper and kept it going until the end? The "MUSIC" was probably the best part of the film. Over-all I give " Drag Me To Hell " 4 skulls out of 5." by pazuzu78 on Thu Oct 15th, 2009 0 Comments | Reply | Report"Drag Me to Hell""Thank You Mr. Sam Raimi!
Well done, you just gave faith to American Horror; there might still be hope! For the last ( long ) couple of years only Asian Horror movies deserve my attention, and with time passing by even the medium/poor ones are masterpieces when compared to a long list of US horror movies ( i just had a flashback of house of wax for a while here argh!). I couldn't help myself thinking about the evil dead trilogy with some of the magnificent scenes on this movie (especially the tissue fight!).
Mr Sam Reimi you just brought Horror back! Hope this is a new beginning... (and all other directors out there... please make room and stay way...)" by nyxcore on Sat Oct 3rd, 2009 0 Comments | Reply | Report"Drag Me to Hell""Most people I know do not love and honor scary horror flicks (and the funny ones too) the way I do, and so it may not have bothered you that the great director of Evil Dead 2 turned more recently to producing films like Spiderman 4 and bad tv. The horror Sam Raimi had still been doing was both more Hollywood and less convincing than it had been in the past... things like The Grudge, empty and pointless efforts. You may never have noticed this particular packaging-up of talent for easy consumption. If you had noticed, it may not have rated so much as a particle of dismay. I loved Evil Dead 2, though. I can't blame Raimi for making popular films in successful genres, but I kept leaving wondering if he would ever give me a thrilling horror movie again. Well, he may never do it again, but oh my, Drag Me to Hell is something special. It benefits from all the technical skill Raimi has acquired in the last twenty years, but returns to the heart and soul of thrilling horror with a complete story, a universe with comprehensible rules and the possibility of salvation, however unlikely, and characters you despise intensely or love deeply. The acting is superb. From the leading lady, to her abusive boss, to the backstabbing office rival, the fortune tellers, her boyfriend, his parents, and the evil antagonist, this film is perfectly played. Alison Lohman plays Christine Brown, an ingenue in the big city, trying to leave the farm behind her who has a job as a loan officer in a bank, and a career path in front of her. She's in love with a young, gentle, doctor, from a good family with money. It's a frame story that resonates well in hard economic times, and when she turns an old woman down for a modification on her mortgage the trouble begins. Lohman is perfect for the role. Stunning in a summer dress, she is the personification of the good hearted, all American girl. She is the person parents hope their girls become. She's attractive and bright, willing to work hard, willing to improve herself, with a smile, and the curves, to bring traffic to a standstill. Clean, she's perfect. Turns out she's perfect, too, covered in mud, muck, or blood. She fights! Oh my, she fights! This is not the girl who falls down and twists her ankle while the serial killer lumbers ponderously after her. This is a kick b*tt protagonist. No spoilers here, but if the girl wins, she's going to earn it. On the NewNonsense scale of one to ten, this movie is an easy ten. I don't hand tens out easily, but I was expecting a six point five, and instead I got a perfect thrill. Not content with setting the box office on fire with the super successful Spider-Man franchise, the sophisticate returns to the big screen with a smaller gem of a thriller. How appropriate is the title of Raimi’s latest feast for the senses: Drag Me To Hell. Joined by brother Ivan the pair present Universal Pictures with a rollicking and witty chiller of a film now freaking folks out at Tinseltown (on Pender, free parking), Empire Studio 12, Colossus and Famous Players Silver City cites across B.C. High on the “hate†list just below politicians and lawyers are those dreadful bankers. After all, it was the banks that got us into the subprime mortgage mess not to mention the Savings and Loan scandals that began in California. Now the sunny state suffers the indignities of one of their officials making a bad decision concerning a standard loan. Christine Brown is young, bright and with a boyfriend to die for. Ready to take on the world Ms. Brown gets into the usual rut at work made all the more testy when she has to deal with an elderly woman out for a loan. Not all is what it appears with Mrs. Ganush. Right after being refused a loan by Ms. Brown the lovely lass has her life turned inside out. Desperate to survive the demons that are raining down on her at free will Christine decides to take matters into her own hands. What follows is a horror fans delight as the nastiness perks up and the tension never lets up in this chill a minute thriller that has enough smart gross out effects and campy performances to make you pull for the heroine or devil, which ever side you decide to come down on. Great casting, impeccable pacing, scary music and some gut wrenching over the top scenes make Drag Me To Hell a barnburner of a movie. Sweet and wholesome Alison Lohman (WHEre the Truth Lies) is just ideal as the bank worker whose decision may yet cost her a life - her own. Good guy Justin Long (Live Free or Die Hard) offers manly help as best buddy Clay Dalton with veteran actress Lorna Raver downright scary as Ms. Ganush. Add David Paymer (Ocean’s Thirteen) into the mix as another banker and you have the recipe for a great emotional battle between good and evil. Real scares, a great dark atmosphere, deadly and creepy monsters, powerful horrific special effects and a campy tone make Drag Me To Hell a zestful guilty pleasure sure to keep you awake all night long.
