Synopsis: "When Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) moves to a small town in the Pacific Northwest to live with her father, she starts school and meets the reclusive Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), a mysterious classmate who reveals himself to be a 108-year-old vampire. Despite Edward's repeated cautions, Bella can't help but fall in love with him, a fatal move that endangers her own life when a coven of bloodsuckers try to challenge the Cullen clan." All you hear about is how great this movie is. I am going to be completely honest about this and I am not saying this because I am "anti-twilight" or anything. This is a real review. This movie was pretty bad. First off, some of the worse acting I have seen in along time. The dialog did not help at all in making these people seem like better actors. Actually, maybe some of them are pretty good, but the dialog makes it worse. I know Kristen Stewart is pretty good. I had heard that Robert Pattinson was amazing in this film. Now I realized that this is said because of all the fangirls out there. His acting was horrible. Plus the fact throughout the whole movie he had this expression on his face like he had to go to the bathroom. The story was ok and interesting, but not strong at all. I do like the take on vampires. It is original and different. After watching this movie I clearly see why it is rated so high. It is a cult film hyped up by people who are more obsessed with the characters than the movie as a whole. But that is good for this film, it helps movies like this make money and I will give them credit for that. I also give them credit because I was able to sit through the whole thing also. I was hoping for a little more special effects than running really fast too. I know some will hate me for my words, but I know true film critics will see my point of view." by chelano on Tue Aug 3rd, 2010 0 Comments | Reply | Report"Overrated!""This movie was totally overrated by teens, but it was still god. With such a rabid book reader following, it was a formula for success at the box office. When you think about it, there was reason to think this could be made into a decent film considering the interesting dynamic between the two lead characters and their situations. Sadly the movie falls well short of these expectations. First of all is the acting. From Stewart's constant sulking to Pattinson's silly brooding. Both deliver their lines as if they are reading directly from a cue card. Then you have Lauttner. For all of the hype I was expecting him to at least be a servicable actor. Boy was I mistaken. He has a long way to go and at times you can't help but laugh out loud at his robotic lines and silly facial expressions. Another problem is with the script. It starts off well enough as you are introduced to Bella and her new situation. The first quarter of the film is fairly entertaining. But then it begins to spin it's wheels and the big climactic end battle is really pointless and not very interesting. Mix this with some pretty gaping plot holes and you have trouble. Also, the movie looks more like a television series than a major studio motion picture. The few special effects used aren't that impressive and it doesn't have a big movie feel to it at all. I know I'm not the target audience but I tend to be objective. "Twilight" is wasted potential. Granted, that potential could only go so far but there was still enough to make a decent film. Sadly bad, cheesy acting and swiss cheese story keep this from being a good movie." by keith7198 on Sun Apr 18th, 2010 1 Comments | Reply | Report"Horrible""One stinking word.Horrible!!!!!!!!!!!!" by texans on Sat Mar 20th, 2010 1 Comments | Reply | Report"A Nice Surprise""When I read the book I wasn't at all interested in watching the movie beacause of all the hype everyone was making of it, but when I finally watched it, I realized it was actually a very good movie! There was things i didn't notice the first time, and some scenes appeared better in the dvd. For example the "Sparkle" scene with Edward in the Sun. It appeared much brighter and more vivid on the DVD then it did in the theatre. SPECIAL FEATURES: The 2 disc dvd comes with great special features. Including 3 music videos by Paramore, Muse and Linkin Park, Who all feature on the Twilight Original Soundtrack. There are 5 extended scenes that we didn't get to see, and there are 5 deleted scenes. EXTENDED SCENES: Scene Title:Are People Talking about the Cullen's again? 1. One thing that wasn't shown in the movie was bella cooking for charlie, there wasn't even a hint of it mentioned, I think that was such a big part of who bella was, and her character in the book. This scene took place in the diner with Bella and Charlie, and here she mentions to him that she can cook for him sometime. I think the seen should have stayed. It would have brought more from the book into the movie. Scene Title: James Let's not play with our food 2.This scene was from the part of Waylons murder. When i read about Waylon being murdered, I imagined it to be intense, but in this scene is wasn't portrayed well at all, There was no struggle from waylon and it almost looked Slow Motion. Then there was a scene of the 3 of them walking away from waylons murder and they had blood dripping from the sides of their mouth, and it look amature, it almost looked to be a bad halloween costume. Scene Title:You don't know how it's tortured me 3. I thought this scene was a must have for the movie. Bella's and Edward's chemistry was already explosive in the movie, but this just showed more the the passion Bella had for Edward almost instantaineously. Scene Title: A Hundred year's worth of Journal's 4.This scene wasn't to different from the scene the chose for this part. Edward had laying around 100 years worth of journals. I would have liked to here a passage from the journal, it would have been interesting. Scene Title: Don't read Charlie's Mind 5.This was a good scene, Cute. It had a bit of comedy. ** The Extended scenes total time was 6 minutes and 10 seconds DELETED SCENES: Scene Title:Edward, She's not one of us 1. I think this scene was needed. Emmett Didn't have much lines in the movie, and this gave him one more, It was short, but it also showed Edwards non stop fasination with Bella, and Bella's frustration for not understanding why Edward was being so cold to her. Scene Title: That's the first night i dreamt of Edward Cullen 2.I'm glad this scene didn't get into the movie, not because i didn't like it, but because the first kiss between bella and edward was meant to be so intense, this scene would have taken that away. Scene Title:Bella, your number was up the first day i met you 3.Loved it, up until the little "Love Bite" edward gave Bella. In my opinion Edward wouldn't have been able to handle that sort of temptation, atleast that calmly. Also edward would have never of bite bella, he hated hurting her. Scene Title: She's brought him to life 4. Why was this scene not in the movie?? This scene should have been kept. In the books the love Carlisle and Esme had for each other was so stong and descriptive. We didn't get to see any of that in the movie, except for this part, and it was cut. Scene Title: I Love it When men Chase me 5.For People who haven't read the books, they probably had no clue that James and Victoria were mates, except for the one tiny part you seen them arm and arm at the baseball diamond. This scene has a passionate kiss between James and Victoria and i think it should have stayed in the movie. ** The Total time for the deleted scenes are 2 minutes and 23 Seconds AUDIO COMMENTARY: The Audio Commentary was great, and Hillarious, it was done by Catherine Hardwicke, Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson. I enjoyed the commentary so much, and if you haven't watched it yet, you need to do it now. THE 7 PART FEATURE: There is a 7 part feature of a thorough break down of taking the book and making a movie, I foun it very interesting. I explained everything from story boards, CGI, Stunts and so much more. THE COMIC-CON FEATURE This was good to, i wasn't to informative about casting or anything, but it was funny to watch the twilighters go into a frenzy. The Twilighters also got to see a Viewing of the Movie OVERALL THOUGHT I loved this, I enjoyed it so much more then i did then seeing it in the theatre, and the special feature were such a bonus. I am a proud owner of this 2 Disc Special, and I recommend everybody to grab it. It will have you entertained for hours. Enjoy!!" by moviefreakzz on Thu Mar 26th, 2009 0 Comments | Reply | Report"Twilight""Over the corse of the year, I have heard one word mentioned hundreds of times repeatedly, not having the slightest clue as to what they were talking about. This word was "Twilight", "Twilight", "Twilight"! Not having read the books, I can say I thoroughly enjoyed this movie, and think it's one of the best in 2008. While die-hard Twilight fans that have read the books, may beg do disagree, I think it's entirely impossible for a film like this to stick exactly to the books. Things must be changed and tugged at, in order, for the film to not be as long as the 500 page book. I think with that in mind, the writers/directors/and everyone else who worked on the project, did a fairly nice job of making this a feature-film production. Although I must admit, 'Twilight' has one of the oddest storylines I've ever encountered, it's also tons of fun, just like the 'Harry Potter' series is. If you have not seen this movie, let me tell you, you are on the verge of becoming a 'nerd', as all the cool kids are loving 'Twilight'. While I still don't see the appeal to sit out until 3 a.m. waiting to be one of the first to pick up a DVD copy of the movie, I still believe it's one of those pop-culture phenomenon, that we can all love. The casting was simply brilliant. A gorgeous, talented cast with plenty of chemistry fills this movie and makes it enjoyable to watch. I was skeptical at first that the leads Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, could pull this off, but they did, indeed, pull it off quite well. While Kristen was a great choice, she isn't necessarily my first choice either. There are more lively actresses that could have played the part, but nevertheless, she did a fine job, and gave realism and emotion to the character. Robert, however, was the standout. Charming, lovely, and intriguing, he was both the embodiment of beautiful, and tortured soul. The scenery was beautiful- really set the mood of Twilight, as well as the music, which was also very fitting and brought more excitement to the scene. My only complaints is firstly, the visuals were a little off. Moments when Edward sparkles in sunlight, and when Edward runs with Bella up the mountain, were the definition of cheesy and poorly-made. Also, what could have been an epic, 'Twilight' falls slightly short of really impressing. Obviously, 'Twilight' isn't fiction, so go ahead and go all out with the story, and REALLY take us to the world of Vampires. That means do the clothes, do the scary music, over-the-top visuals, dark and luminous forests, dangerous and sexy love scenes, and make it into a hauntingly, beautiful movie experience. Sadly, the movie isn't an epic romance, like it could have been, but hopefully with a new director, it can turn that route with the new film being made! I really recommend this film. I'm not one to follow the crowds and buy into hype, but I really, truly loved this film. Many preposterous scenes like "Vampire Baseball" are made cool with a little usage of funky, punk-rock music like "Supermassive Black Hole", and chilly, icy, grey visuals of dark, beautiful forests. I think anyone can truly enjoy this film about a romance between a teenage girl and her sexy vampire, no matter how preposterous it sounds, it's also a lot of fun, and the next best thing since Harry Potter. " by happygurl on Tue Mar 24th, 2009 17 Comments | Reply | Report"Twilight""The Twilight DVD release is sure to excite fans of this saga. The movie has some script and acting deficiencies in a few spots but it offers a nice YA romantic drama for teens and Twilight fans, but it has a nice 'superhero' effect. It's neither great nor is it awful. The vampire teen and the girl have chemistry. But other than, I it's just not that special. There's no real intrigue until the last 20 minutes, when bad vampires have her scent. But even that wasn't as exciting as it could have been. Vampires are all about two things - blood and sex.
In Twilight, we get neither. In this movie there's a bunch of pretty people, playing baseball using their superpowers. The moment the term 'vampires' is introduced, any self respecting vampire fan would want to bang their head against the wall until they pass out. Not because they bought the ticket or rented/downloaded the movie but because these guys are a complete and utter joke compared to the real thing. Half an hour in, one of the main characters Edward is asking if he's the bad guy. His little sweetheart, upon who he gazes (and does pretty much nothing else) during the whole movie, Bella doesn't believe him however. Neither do we. Edward may be a pretty kid that glitters in the sunlight but his monologue "I'm so dangerous, I could outrun you, I could suck your blood like a blood junkie.." is laughable. He's not a bad guy, not in the least. His routine of stalking Bella during the night however, is more than a little creepy. "I like watching you sleep." The girl found that romantic while in real life, if you're a mentally stable person, you'd be freaked out and for a good reason. Finally, I'm going to say that I'm glad this plot was limited in two hours. If it were any longer, I would have followed that guy who left the movie theater an hour after the movie started. Now I am fully aware that this is a teen romance, so if you're a teenage girl, aged from 12 to 16, chances are - you're going to love it. All the others? Don't bother watching Twilight or you will curse yourself afterward forever. Me, I have a new found respect for myself as I stoically watched the whole thing. Maybe we should put Edward on the test too. See if he can handle watching himself act like a total sissy for 120 minutes while shamelessly calling himself a vampire." by Narcissus on Thu Feb 12th, 2009 0 Comments | Reply | Report"Twilight""First of all can ijust say how brilliant this film is. Now I have no idea if the movie stays true to the book because I have never read it, but I have to say that this was a very boring and pretentious movie. Both Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson are fine as the leads and I look forward to seeing them in the next one. It's the supporting cast that fails to do anything. And not just that, the script is not written very well and the special effects are pretty corny. For this reason I began my journey into the world of Twilight as an unconvinced critic. I was quickly overcome however by the sheer intensity of Twilight’s story. When news of a film reached my ears I was immediately prepared for the typical book-to-film disappointment. The story would become diluted and the characters would lose their all of their passion and personality and I would find myself storming out of the theater complaining of my wasted seven dollar ticket. Surprisingly I did not find this to be the case… entirely. For virgins to the Twilight series the story is that of Bella Swan, the new girl as school that catches the attention of the resident “vegetarian†vampire Edward Cullen, played by Robert Pattinson. Edward and his vampire family live in the town of Forks WA and have taken on an alternative lifestyle of consuming only the blood of animals to sustain their undying thirst without harming any humans. When Bella moves to Forks to live with her estranged father Edward is immediately draw to her via her enticing scent and their romance takes flight. Of course, this atypical love story is laced with danger and suspense from the beginning. From the constant internal battle fought by Edward to keep himself from obeying his natural urges and harming the object of his affection, to the danger posed by “non-vegetarian†vampires entering their town, this story takes its viewer on a roller coaster of romance and suspense. Overall the film is more cautious than the book in its portrayal of the star struck lovers, and the script written by Melissa Rosenberg barely scratches the surface of the book’s storyline but it does the job adequately. Readers of the book will be satisfied with the castings of Pattinson and Stewart in the leading roles as will newcomers to the series. Without the obvious passion and teenage angst between these two youngsters the film may have limped to the finish line. However, Pattinson does an excellent job of handling the multitude of facial expressions expected of his tormented vampire character, despite his somewhat overdone makeup and Stewart flawlessly portrays her complicated, clumsy character. Although my verdict remains that this film is a success it is not without flaws. First of all, the low budget start to the filming left the director Catherine Hardwicke with limited special effect resources and it does show. There are a few scenes where Edward attempts to show Bella his true vampire self by displaying his immortal strength and speed. In the book this was done by Edward running so fast it was as if he just flashed from one place to another and tossing around large boulders and tree limbs to demonstrate his great strength. The filmmakers however took this section of the film way off course and instead portrayed Edward jumping from tree to tree like a monkey and even went so far as to have him refer to Bella as his “little spider monkeyâ€. Ridiculous on its own, this section of the film also veers entirely from the book where Edward would never be seen climbing trees like an animal. Blamed on the lack of funds this flaw to the film was probably not as detrimental for newcomers to the story but definitely outraged the loyal fans of the book. The most obvious weakness in the film is the limited character development. Although the portrayals of Edward and Bella are saved by the exquisite job done by Stewart and Pattinson, the rest of the cast is left with limited introductions and few meaningful scenes. This is the only area where this film takes on the usual book-to-film disappointment. This aspect forces the film to be categorized by many into that somewhat shallow genre of “teenage love story†of which its original text is undeserving. This flaw could have been remedied with two more hours of character development but as this was impossible to fit the usual movie time constraints this limited feature must be accepted. So, overall Twilight leaves die hard fans satiated with the story and characters they know and love, it takes newcomers on a ride of passion and suspense sure satisfy a full range of audiences and it brings new life to an old fantasy cliché of vampires in love. I enjoyed this movie and despite some flaws recommend it to audiences of all ages, because everyone can appreciate the intensity of young love, mortal or immortal. The young cast does a good job considering they didn't have much to work with. The low budget was very evident at times, especially when there is an attempt at special effects. I've seen better on TV in shows like "Charmed". To compare this with the Harry Potter franchise is ridiculous and probably put out there by one of the "Twilight" studio exec's. Other than some immature teenage girls who go google eye over the lead character, most people will let this film go by with little notice. I wanted to keep my expectations down when the adaptation to movie came out; we all know that movies are never as good as the books. The books allow us to use our imagination with characters and the elements that make it important to us as individuals. I can honestly say that I loved the movie. I have seen it several times and each time I loved it more. I thought the cast was great. Rob and Kristen portrayed Edward and Bella perfectly, as did the entire cast. Rob especially brought his character of Edward to life so well that you felt his awkwardness and confusion as you did in the book, he was so torn between his vial instinct to kill and his love for Bella. Sure there were elements that could have been better, however overall I thought they did a good job. I think the movie as in the book is a wonderful love story that allows us to remember the awkwardness and complications of your first love. I would like to say that they picked a good person to play Edward he made the character come alive from the book. Bella seemed plain but I guess that is what she is like in her character. The meadow scene should have been a little bit more romantic, it seemed like they did not care for each other, they were just laying there without talking that is not what happened in the book. The only problem is that they left out a lot of the book in this movie hopely when they make the next movie it will follow the book a little bit better. But all in all the movie was great and was a sell out here in our hometown of Eagle Pass." by tequila_sunrise on Wed Nov 26th, 2008 1 Comments | Reply | Report"Twilight""I couldn't wait to watch the movie on opening night. I decided to check the book out just on a whim and was pleasantly surprised with how addictive and enchanting I found it to be. It's a well documented fact that 9 times out of 10, books are never translated that well into film and material is bound to be cut due to time constraints. I also understand that if it's a small budget, chances are the effects aren't going to necessarily be mind blowing. Those points well understood and taken into consideration, I still expected that the essence of the book would be preserved and it would be a really decent movie due to the good source material. Was I in for a rude awakening! Ten minutes into the movie, I found myself seething in my seat but endured the whole movie hoping it would be better and that I was being too harsh. As the ending credits rolled, I realized that I was being honest...period. There were several main struggling points with the film: the direction, the camerafolks, the acting and the screenplay. The acting overall was solid except for Kristen Stewart- who should be replaced and Robert Pattinson gets a pass due to his leading lady's limited acting abilities. He could have been better if he'd had some real direction instead of being left to think weird/angry faces and over the top theatrics would suffice. I lay that at the feet of the direction. Kristen just didn't do it as Bella for me on any level. She seemed okay initially but as the movie progressed, it just got worse and worse. She initially embodied Bella from a physical perspective but never seemed ordinary enough, especially with the kind of wardrobe they had her in. One of the main things in the book regarding Edward and Bella's relationship was that she couldn't understand why someone like him would ever be with someone like her. Surprisingly, the supporting players were fine...with what little they had to do with one exception: the dude who played Jacob. I don't know why they couldn't get someone with natural long hair willing to cut it for the second movie. Every time he was on screen, my eyes drifted automatically to the half wig he wore. I wish the Cullen family could have been more visable instead of seeming like props to move the action forward. The high school kids were appropriate but why did anyone feel the need to have Eric behave the way he did? Which brings me to another sticking point: the repeated and blatant departures from the book. I am so sick and tired of the following reasons to excuse this movie from any true criticisms:
- "It's a small budget."--sorry but that's a lame excuse and other movies have been made with smaller budgets and still done a better job, special effects shouldn't be that big of a main focus
-"They can't put everything from the book into the movie."--duh, unless it becomes acceptable to make 4+ hr movies that's already a given but please don't insult my intelligence. There are plenty of films adapted from books that couldn't squeeze in all the details and still did a good job (Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter...?). The point is to make sure the essence and vital elements crucial to the story make their way into that screenplay.
Those two main points/excuses have been done to death with all of the reviews I've read from the fans.
It was just upsetting to me because the rich source material was right there and it seemed like no one wanted to ensure a decent thorough job was being done with the story itself. I am rereading the first book in an effort to restore the integrity of the story back into my mind. This may be negative but maybe if enough people provide constructive criticisms then TPTB will take a second to reflect and make the necessary changes to avoid a repeat with "New BLood"." by jcwriter25 on Wed Nov 26th, 2008 1 Comments | Reply | Report"Twilight"" I am a huge Twilight fan and I was very nervous about this movie. I knew that somethings were going to be added and somethings were going to be left out, that I was prepared for. What I was not prepared for was how they changed what was left in the movie from the book! What was with the cafeteria and the meadow scene? The director and writer of the movie did read the book right? The was no emotion at all from this movie and to be honest with you some of it I have completely forgotten about already. I was very disappointed with the over all end result. I hope they really take a close look at the book before they do the next movie." by isslady on Tue Nov 25th, 2008 1 Comments | Reply | Report"Twilight""Oh my gee I love, LOVE, LOVE this movie!! I am a lil' scared though becasue everyone is saying that they are so different and I love the movie already so idk!! I do know that this is my new favortie movie though!! " by nes on Sun Nov 23rd, 2008 3 Comments | Reply | Report"Twilight""The movie was awesome. Yeah... there were some
parts that were not in the movie, and
even parts that were added that were not
in the book but that is to be expected.
The parts that were not in the book and were
added to the film actually made it a little
bit better because you have the building of
James and his coven throughout the movie. As for
the parts that were not in the movie and in the
book.... I didnt even realize they were not there
until the end of the movie. The movie included
humor and serious parts that were a great balance, and
kept your attention throughtout the whole movie.
This series is going
to be amazing in all the films. Cant wait for
the next one!" by apl790 on Sat Nov 22nd, 2008 1 Comments | Reply | Report"Twilight""The tale of Bella and Edward.......Who does not love this story? I know that the book 'Twilight' was, and still is, my favorite book. Since high school I have been looking forward to this movie. My opinion? It was decent. I know that there's only so much you can do with two hours of film, but I believe that they could have followed the story line a little bit better. Things that weren't even in the book ended up in the movie. I was watching, and was questioning the story almost the entire time. Specific events and happenings in the book were jumbled beyond my belief. I guess I'd say it was worth going to see. I've been a dedicated 'Twilight' fan for years. And since the movie IS based on the book, it's worth it. Just don't keep your hopes up too high when you go to the theater." by myselenee on Fri Nov 21st, 2008 2 Comments | Reply | Report |
